Mercy Team

The Mercy Team

The Mercy Team is the core of missional and outreach programs. This team leads our congregation in the many ways we serve the community.

The Mercy Team believes that God has prepared good works in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). We know that the journey of following Jesus includes caring for the people he loves. So, we look for opportunities to encourage one another, individually and corporately, to outbursts of love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24).

Our focus is on meeting needs in our community both through planned projects and taking care of incidental situations as they arise. We enjoy several connections throughout the Flushing school system which allow us to plan and respond in helpful ways. We’re privileged to be part of the Flushing Christian Outreach Center.

Companies Feeding Families

How your business can get involved in helping to feed lots of families in our community

Bread For Life

One out of three children in Flushing relies on resources such as free or reduced-priced school breakfast and/or lunch, during the school year. With this in mind, it has been estimated that between 75-100 children in Flushing may have very little to nothing to eat after lunch on Friday until their breakfast at school on Monday morning. Can you imagine what long weekends feel like for them?

Hunger impacts student’s success both academically and socially. The Bread for Life program is designed to
meet the needs of chronically hungry children in Flushing so that they can experience nourishment and find hope. With a community as caring and prosperous as ours, there is no reason why any child should go hungry – ever!

Since 2010, churches have been collaborating together to meet this need. We appreciate deeply Holy Cross Lutheran Church for coordinating and storing the food and working with each school to identify students who need this program. Every church can participate in Bread for Life and every resident of our community can help us stomp out hunger!
